Growing up in New Jersey, my family and I were actively involved with Lunch Break, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing life’s basic necessities to those in need. Whether it was assisting them onsite with various tasks, sponsoring a family for holiday meals, or providing fresh local produce from our family’s garden, Cousins’ Garden, we were proud to be able to give back to our community with our time and resources.

Fast forward to 2017 and this 15-year familial relationship was integrated with the RiverRoad team. Each month, our Social Responsibility Team organizes the resources needed to best support Lunch Break. To date, this has included securing donations for a Back-to-School supplies drive, organizing the food pantry shelves, and organizing clothing donations for Clara’s Closet. Additionally, this fall the team spent time volunteering at the local market which provides clients of Lunch Break with produce from Cousins’ Garden, a 30,000 square foot garden with over 100 raised beds, harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables that complements Lunch Break’s existing inventory of canned and boxed food items.

Engaging Employees to Make a Difference

 The response from the team has been overwhelmingly positive. Since our Social Responsibility program allows team members to volunteer during office hours, they can easily fit volunteering into their busy daily schedules. An added benefit is that RiverRoad team members come together for a good cause, which builds team spirit and camaraderie.

The hallmark of any social responsibility program is for it to be embraced by your entire team. Providing an opportunity for hands-on experience with your non-profit partner makes the act of volunteering even more meaningful. The RiverRoad team is fully engaged with Lunch Break and looks forward to supporting them in their various endeavors to improve the lives of local families in need.

Our team knows that we value their expertise on the job as well as their openness to give of themselves to our partner, Lunch Break.

I’m grateful for our partnership with Lunch Break and am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to share this with my team at RiverRoad. I’m looking forward to continuing our work to support Lunch Break’s mission to alleviate hunger and create a healthier, more self-sufficient lifestyle for those they serve.
